"Aiming for an unrealistic ideal can create unhelpful attitudes about ourselves."
The Mental Health Foundation has published its Mind Over Mirror report, which combines the findings from the Body Image Report (Mental Health Awareness Week, 2019) and responses to its May 2021 survey.
MHF has responded to campaigns such as the Be Real Body Image Pledge, which calls for businesses in the advertising, fashion, media and music industries - and other organisations - to pledge to portray body image in a responsible way.
According to the Mental Health Foundation's research, as many as 1 in 3 UK adults have reported feeling 'down' or 'low' as a result of their body image - a large percentage of the population.
Mind Over Mirror contains lots of information and advice for working towards acceptance of our bodies rather than aiming for unrealistic ideals, and potentially harming our mental health.
