Mental health awareness is the subject of a new programme which launches this month to mark World Mental Health Day.
Forward Together for Mental Health is a news-style programme that aims to raise the profile of mental health in the UK. It seeks to challenge perceptions and dispel myths around mental health issues and features powerful human-interest stories alongside interviews with key industry figures. It will also include news reports and sponsored editorial profiles from leading organisations.
The show is the result of a collaboration between Mental Health UK and ITN Productions Industry News and will be anchored by an ITN presenter. It covers themes such as clinical care, social connectedness, physical health, housing, financial uncertainty, employment and volunteering.
Brian Dow, Chief Executive of Mental Health UK, said: “Mental health is a vital national issue at the best of times, but it has become even more relevant as we’ve navigated the challenges of recent months. This is an important and timely opportunity to highlight what it means to live with a mental health problem, and it will present the case for support needed across the many aspects of our lives which influence our mental health, such as our relationships, our home, our employment and our finances. Through this programme, we hope to show that when this support is available in the community it can do a huge amount to support people affected by mental illness to have a better quality of life.”
Forward Together for Mental Health is scheduled to coincide with World Mental Health Day which launches on Sunday 10th October 2021. The official theme for this year’s event is ‘Mental Health in an Unequal World’, as set by the World Federation for Mental Health.
