Mental Health Support
05 Jan 2021

As a Pathfinder Alliance partner Rethink Mental Illness provides an Asian Mental Health Helpline across West Sussex.

The helpline offers a culturally sensitive listening and information service for the Asian community in West Sussex. The service is for anyone affected by mental health issues – whether they are service users, carers or friends and people affected by domestic abuse.

Rethink has shared three short videos, all available on youtube. All are accessible by clicking on the titles, or from the download section below.

The Ladies Sangeet: this short film is based at a Sangeet - a traditional gathering of women a few days before a wedding ceremony in a south Asian wedding ceremony - where a character is suffering from domestic. It was produced as part of a VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) project that Rethink and Kent Equality Cohesion Council worked on jointly locally, relating to domestic abuse and self harm.

Lithium (director's cut of Open Secrets):  an award-winning short drama about the stigma of mental illness in a British-Asian family, starring BAFTA nominee Saeed Jaffrey and upcoming star Valmike Rampersad.

Anxiety: A Documentary:  a short film about mental health for south Asians. It was first premiered at the International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto (IFFSA) in August 2020.
