Mental Health Support
20 Jun 2024

People who feel at breaking point can find support at a number of Staying Well crisis support centres across Sussex, with Staying Well Worthing the latest centre to offer a walk-in service.

Staying Well is a dedicated out-of-hours crisis support service run by teams of mental health and peer support workers in partnership with the local NHS. The service aims to help people build skills to reduce emotional and psychological distress in a supportive environment.

Individuals experiencing a mental health crisis can now access a walk-in service at Staying Well Worthing, as well as the Staying Well centres in Brighton & Hove and Crawley, which began offering walk-ins earlier this year. This change means that people based in and around Worthing can receive urgent mental health support without needing to schedule an appointment, helping to ensure that those in urgent need can access help quickly and easily. Staying Well Worthing is led by Pathfinder partner, West Sussex Mind, in partnership with the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Staying Well offers a relaxed and welcoming space where people in crisis can find non-judgemental support. As well as an NHS clinician, the teams include staff with lived experience, providing peer support and understanding from a personal perspective. The service helps people on their path towards recovery and connects them with additional services and organisations that can help them further.

There are five crisis support centres across Sussex which operate as a partnership between the NHS and voluntary, community and social enterprise sector organisations. Contact details and opening hours can be found below.
