The UK government announced a number of pledges to mark World Mental Health Day this year.
£1 million has been donated by the government in response to ITV’s Help our Helplines campaign. The funding will be allocated to mental health charities helplines as part of the Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund. More information will be shared shortly, but you can read the latest information on the GOV.UK website.
The government also announced over £400m is being pledged over the next 4 years to remove dormitories from mental health facilities. The funding will help replace outdated mental health dormitories with single en-suite rooms. More details will be announced shortly.
This announcement comes alongside wider announcements to mark World Mental Health Day, including £2 million for research into the effects of covid-19 on mental health. The research will focus on the effects of the pandemic on the mental health and wellbeing of 3 at-risk groups: healthcare workers, children and young people and those with serious mental health problems.
